The Neilsen ratings people called tonight, conducting a survey on moviegoing."How many movies have you seen in the past two months?" she asks, chipperly.
"One," I say, eager to give my cogent and insightful input on "Little Miss Sunshine," a film I enjoyed tremendously and would be happy to pump for ratings.
"Oh, dear. Well, is there someone else there who's been to more movies? Maybe I can speak to them..."

I have been wanting to see that movie.
excellent movie. One that academics everywhere can enjoy!
This made me laugh, since a few months ago I received a call from them asking about my television viewing habits.
"How many hours a week do you think you spend watching dramas?"
Zero
"...Ummm, OK, then how many hours a week do you estimate you spend watching reality televsion shows?"
Zero
"Really? Really none?"
Really
"All right then... how many hours a week would you estimate you spend watching HBO or Showtime, or other pay-for-service channels."
Zero
"Ummm... OK. Thanks for your time, but we really are looking for more avid watchers to participate in the Nielsen ratings. Good night!"
