The end is nigh

Student conversation overheard on my way across campus this morning:

"I don't know about you, but I won't even get up in the morning until I've had my first beer."

My husband had a student in class who looked peaked for several days in a row. He asked if she was all right and she said "Yeah, just selling too much plasma." Horrified, he asked if it was for rent or tuition and she said, "Nah. Beer." Clearly the USDA food pyramid needs some more revising to reflect reality!!

Plus, you know that they're not just poisoning themselves with alcohol...they're poinsoning themselves with BAD alcohol.

A few weeks ago, I overhead one of my students saying that she had a particularly horrible day and needed a drink.

"I hope you treat yourself to something good," I said.

"Nah," she replied, "I'll be drinking vodka out of a plastic bottle."

All together now: *shudder*

Ooh--I'm not known for my fine palate, but even I draw the line at hard liquor in plastic. If she makes it to 30, perhaps she'll do the same...
